Ironclad Commitment to the NATO Alliance

NATO, the United States and our partners have guaranteed freedom of navigation of the seas and prevented major wars from breaking out for the last 75 years. I understand the crucial role NATO plays in our nation’s security and the stability of the free world.

We are now engaged in an international arms, space, and tech race with communist China, the Russian Federation, and their allies North Korea and Iran. Russian and Chinese influence is spreading across Africa, Asia, and even closer to home in Central and South America.

What many Americans don’t realize is how the conflict in Ukraine and support or lack there of impacts global geopolitical stability, commerce, prosperity, and western democracies security. American influence and safety rely on global stability, and we’ve sacrificed thousands of American lives and invested trillions of dollars to maintain it worldwide.

Ukraine is Europe’s breadbasket, feeding not only Europeans but also countless people across Africa and the Middle East through its port in Odesa. China supports Russia’s invasion partly because they understand that a hungry and unstable Africa is easier for them to control. We depend on imports from Africa and other regions not just for our economy but for our security, especially rare earth minerals essential for high-tech manufacturing that give us an edge over our adversaries.

If Ukraine falls to Russian military control Putin will not stop and global stability as we know it will be dismantled. Africa is quickly falling under Chinese economic control, and our allies in Europe and Southeast Asia are not far behind.

We must stand with the NATO alliance and our European allies in supporting Ukraine and increasing every single member Nations defense investment to 4% of GDP just like Poland has. This fight is much larger than Ukraine. The Russians and Chinese recognize this, and it’s high time we did the same.

My commitment to the western alliance is Ironclad and always will be! “Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.” (JFK)
