Candidate Forum – Rocky Ford

There is going to be a candidate forum on October 7th in Rocky Ford at the Grand Theater. It’s either at 6:30 or 7 pm. (It used to be put on by NARFE.) The format is you present your schpiel then there are questions from the audience. If a campaign has a surrogate, they don’t get questions asked of them. They just present what a candidate is about/why they’re running etc.) You can send or have a local person as a surrogate for your campaign. If you choose to come and find a surrogate, I need to know so I can tell the guy who is doing it. Let me know if you want to participate, have a surrogate speak so I can let him know.

We will have a table for campaign materials.

My *personal* (not as an officer) take – 
Rocky Ford’s nursing home has had an outbreak and some folks still say it’s an active outbreak. Swink school just had a scare (thankfully it’s not an outbreak just isolated cases). The theater is an older building with questionable circulation in regards to SARS-CoV-2. (It seats no more than 200 if that.) If people follow staying generally six feet apart then it will be low attendance. They say they are going to broadcast via Facebook Live. We, Otero county, still can’t have more than 10 people gather at an outdoor space so how this is being done is beyond me currently. I’m going to talk to the health department about it. If there’s a concern I will pass it on. 

I don’t ever want to limit candidate exposure. But I don’t want to risk the health of anyone versus getting a candidate more exposure. So, I’m only making these points to make them and let you decide if you want to come or have a surrogate speak for you.
